Keeping Healthy as the Weather Changes

body mind emotion Mar 25, 2024

Well speaking of the weather, how is your health doing?  Not only your physical body, but your mind as well. I know most of us are done with winter, yet she persists.

For many of us, myself included, you feel the nudge of a cold approaching.  What do you do?  Do you take action, or just brace for what's ahead.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids such as water, herbal teas, and broths. Staying hydrated helps your body fight off infections and can ease symptoms if you do get sick. There is nothing like a bowl of homemade chicken soup, but I will say when I feel that way I look for comfort soup, like Campbell's chicken noodle.  Mind you, the salt content may be high.
  • Rest Up: Listen to your body and rest as much as possible. Sleep supports your immune system, and getting enough of it can help your body fend off a cold.  This includes taking a nap if you feel tired - listen to your body, it's trying to tell you what it needs.
  • Wash Your Hands Regularly:...

Is It Really "Comfort Food"?

body mind emotion Oct 09, 2023
With the cooler temperatures creeping in, do you find yourself reaching for your favourite "comfort food"?

What is your favorite comfort food of all time?
Here are some top comfort food choices:
  • Mac & Cheese - who can resist that creamy cheesy pasta?
  • Chicken Soup - a hearty dish that's believed to have healing properties, and just warms our belly.
  • Mashed Potatoes - growing up on those as a kid makes me feel warm and protected, especially topped with butter, salt & pepper.
  • Grilled Cheese Sandwich - crispy bread and gooey melted cheese make for a comforting combination.
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies - a timeless comfort food, especially fresh out of the oven with melted chocolate chips.
  • Spaghetti and Meatballs - warm and filling in the tummy.
  • Chili - another popular dish as the weather turns cold.
  • Fried Chicken - Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.
  • Pizza - a North American favourite, loaded with your favorite toppings.
  • Ice Cream - another creamy...

Do you LOVE Essential Oils?

body mind emotion Sep 13, 2023

Are you a lover of essential oils?

If yes keep reading as I share an amazing Face Tightening Serum, all natural below.

But first did you know that doTERRA essential oils come from parts of the world where they originated? Lavender from Bulgaria for example. Why does this matter, because those soils are rich in minerals and nutrients that you cannot get from just growing your own here in North America.  This alone sets doTERRA apart for the others, but wait there's more.

Anyone can label an essential oil as "therapeutic" as there is no regulatory board for essential oils.  Due to this doTERRA has implemented rigorous testing standards to set them apart.  First, before it leaves its country of origin; 2 - as it enters the USA by an external source;  and 3 - in the doTERRA lab, every batch, not just a sampling from the main batch, is tested and once it meets standard, it is bottled at their site in Utah.  There are now warehouse in Canada...

The Pros and Cons of Caffeine

body mind emotion Sep 12, 2023
Are you a coffee or tea drinker?

Do you drink either everyday?

More than one, or are you that person who always has a coffee in hand or at your desk?

Do you ever consider the fact that caffeine is highly addictive and that you may also be addicted?

Do you care?
If not take a read below as you may change your mind.

Lots of questions I know, and drinking these beverages, and the many variations is a widely accepted practice, even around the world.  There is nothing like a cappuccino when in Italy!

Speaking of Italy, what really took me by surprise when we were there many moons ago, is that there were no "to go" orders.  You stopped, sat or stood and drank your cappuccino and enjoyed every last drop.  So different than the lifestyle we were used to at home, where it is rush rush rush, do more, have more, work more... then at least for me I found caffeine became a necessary part of my...

A tasty treat to warm the belly on a cold day.

body mind emotion Nov 08, 2022

Due to the frigid temperatures we are having I thought why not feed the soul with a yummy and nutritious treat.

As some of you know we follow Anthony William, the Medical Medium, not because he's a medium, but because what he says makes sense. We have tried out many of his suggestions, including celery juice every morning, cutting out "troublemaker" foods etc. like caffeine, and just approaching our 8th, 9 day liver cleanse mid-November.

We do it because of the wonderful results we get, and both Darren and I are healthier now than before we followed him, that's almost 3 years ago now.  In fact I have reduced my BP meds from 3 pills, down to .5 of one pill!  Now those are true results based on lifestyle changes, namely what we eat, and through cleansing our bodies.

The great news is that we have tried many of his recipes and found great substitutes for things like dairy (yeah I hear you, I never thought we would give that up, but here we are and I know I am not...

One good deed inspires another!

One good deed inspires another!

While out for our daily walk at the dog park and to the river, (self-care for all of us right) I noticed a man who we see most days, out with his dog going at a snail pace, with a bag in his hand.

We stopped to say hello, and exchange treats dog to dog, and I asked what he was doing.

"Just picking up garbage to keep our beautiful trails and park beautiful this nice.  Imagine if every person did this?"

Well it hit me like a ton of bricks. He was right!  Why do I walk past garbage, because it's not mine?  Yeah admittingly so, the underlying thought being, people should be responsible for themselves, why should I pick up after the irresponsible, or as Dr. Stephen Covey says "irr-response-able.

I had to ask myself, am I able?  You bet I am, so why do I walk past others garbage?  What is my true excuse, is it pride, to prove a point, to wait for those responsible to come back and pick up...

The Seedbed of the Sacral Chakra -Vitality, Creation and Passion

body mind emotion Apr 04, 2022

Now you have a basic understanding of what Charka's do from the previous blogs about Chakras.  Caring for our Chakras is part of self-care, as it relates to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies that surround and are a part of us, known as our aura.

The Sacral Chakras mission is "I feel, I sense, I discover."

Sacral Chakra Purpose is about:

  • Creativity

  • Soul Fire

  • Sexuality

  • Passion

  • Life Vitality

Now you can see why the Sacral is such an important Chakra.

The qualities listed above are all about incorporating passion, vitality and creativity into our lives, that allows us to create the life we desire vs. just living life day by day with no direct intention or purpose beyond making a living.  Even if we do not love what we do for our job, we can still nurture our passion and creativity in our personal lives.  Some may say "I don't have a creative bone in my body."  Chances are you may have a...

The Power of the Solar Plexus Chakra

body mind emotion Feb 21, 2022

Now you have a basic understanding of what Charka's do from the previous blogs about Chakras.  Caring for our Chakras is part of self-care, as it relates to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies that surround and are a part of us, known as our aura.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is known as Manipura and is represented by the symbol below.

Solar Plexus Chakra Purpose is about:

  • Self-confidence
  •  Self-worth
  • Personal Power
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-definition

Now you can see why the Solar Plexus is such an important Chakra.

The qualities listed above are all about how we feel about ourselves, and what we put forth to other people.  If we lack self-esteem or self-worth, chances are we give away our personal power and do things that we end up not really wanting to do.  Or we lack the self-confidence to take the next step in our career, a relationship etc.  Now you really see how having...

The All Important Heart Chakra

body mind emotion Jan 31, 2022

Now you have a basic understanding of what Charka's do from the first 2 blogs about Chakras.  Caring for our Chakras is part of self-care, as it relates to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies that surround and are a part of us, known as our aura.

The Heart Chakra is known as Anahata and is represented by the symbol below.

Heart Chakra Purpose is about:

  • Love, Deep Love
  • Self-acceptance
  • Peace
  • Joy
  • I give, I love, I care

Why is the Heart Chakra so important?

It's where the top 3 (Crown, Third Eye & Throat) and the bottom 3  (Solar Plexus, Sacral & Root) Chakras meet.  Notice in the symbol for the Heart Chakra how the 2 triangles meet, that create the star.  It truly is at the heart of the matter.

The Heart Chakra rules compassion, forgiveness, generosity and love.

What kind of clues do we have whether our  Heart Chakra is out of balance?

Physical problems:

  • Angina
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Stenosis of...

I fell off the wagon and it hurt!

body mind emotion Sep 08, 2021

Well it’s almost 6 months since I had my fall and I had been doing very well with my recovery.

During my couch healing time I learned about juicing, started juicing many different kinds and enjoying most of them.  I am sure this helped my healing come along plus the minimum 1 hour of physio for each day.

Overall I was eating well, and the main pain I had in my body was my knee as it healed.

Then August hit and we had 2 big shows, with the 4 days in-between shows “off”.  Really it was time spend unpacking, then repacking up new displays for the medieval show. We were busy and this was a real test for my knee, as it involved 7 days of standing all day.

During this time, we let good eating and exercise habits go to the wayside and started to slide, and what a slippery slope we hit.  WE FELL OFF THE WAGON!

Right back to old habits, including a few Egg McMuffins & hash browns from McDonald’s for the occasional breakfast, and a...
